Plan your route

Here at Honeystreet boats on the Kennet and Avon canal we are very happy to help you plan your narrowboat holiday. If you have any questions at all please email and we will try our best to help. Email a question press HERE

There are great guide books available. One of the most useful is the Nicholson Guide No. 7.  click HERE for the amazon link.

There is an absolutely wonderful website called

canalplan.org.uk which is the canal version of route planner for roads. It is brilliant.

Start by setting a starting point,

In this case Honeystreet bridge 124 and then type in where you would like to go.

You can set how many days you have. (If you have booked for a week, you normally will have 6 full days cruising plus a couple of hours on the first day, after training! and maybe an hour or so in the morning of your last day)

You can travel in two directions, either West towards Bath or East towards Hungerford.

If you are not experienced driving a narrowboat we set navigational limitations in both directions.

Heading West no farther than Bath Top Lock 13

Heading East no farther than Kintbury Bridge 75

These limitations are so you will only be on the canals and not encounter any rivers where cross currents and flows can be an issue.

If you are experienced you will be restricted to the Navigation from Hanham Lock 1 at Bath and Newbury Wharf.

Below are two example routes.

Route One – to Bath and back,

Route Two  – to Kintbury and back to Devizes then back to Honeystreet
