Lock Free Holiday?

 Lock Free Holiday?

We are based in the middle of a lovely 15 mile stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal in Pewsey Vale Wiltshire where it is possible to have a lovely lock free week exploring the local area.  This can be described as the ultimate unwind and relax holiday with cruising for a couple of hours each day. Plan your week to stop by a different pub each day or by stopping in a different stretch of peace and quiet.

Day 1, An ideal route would be, start in the afternoon collecting your boat, cruise for a couple of hours to Horton and moor up at the Bridge Inn for delicious food and great beverages.

Day 2, wake up to peace and quiet, cook your own breakfast in the boats galley and then gently cruise still lock free to Devizes. Explore the town, visit the market, shops, Museum and the amazing Wadworths visitor centre and brewery tour. Have a relaxing evening and good nights sleep.

Day 3 in the morning a good hearty walk up and down the famous Caen Hill lock system, it is totally an amazing feat of engineering and enjoyed best whilst sipping coffee and eating freshly made cake from the cafe!Back onto your boat, turn around, and head east to All Cannings. Moor up and the Kings Arms pub and local village shop is just a mile away. Relax until morning.

Day 4 and time to head back through to Honeystreet. Moor up and enjoy lunch in the fabulous Honeystreet Mill Cafe which is located here just above our canalside mooring.  Then continue the day with the plan to moor up in the total peace and quiet beyond lady’s bridge at bridge number 120.

Day 5 and still lock free, your canal boat holiday on the Kennet and Avon continues to Wootton Rivers and here is as far as you go. This is a totally picturesque village and the Royal Oak pub serves wonderful beer and great food.

Day 6 a gentle cruise back to Pewsey where you can explore this lovely village with its proper bakery, supermarket, swimming pool and post office before a further short cruise back towards Honeystreet.  Moor up in Wilcot and the Golden Swan awaits. Another fine Wadworths pub, you should now be an expert on their beers!

Day 7 and it’s a gentle cruise back past Honeystreet before turning at Allington and heading back to All Cannings for your last night of fun at the Kings Arms pub.

Day 8 it’s back to Honeystreet to arrive ready to decamp. Why not save on the washing up and enjoy a well earned “bargees breakfast in our cafe before starting homeward bound. 30 miles cruised with 7 days relaxed.

There is the most amazing and beautiful countryside all around waiting to be explored. Even crop circles in the summer. The stretch of water is just ideal for your canal boat holiday.
